I was looking at a competitor's website the other day. It was perfect. The colors matched, the photos were from a high-end studio, and every sentence sounded like it was written by a lawyer. You know what I felt? Nothing. I didn't trust it for a second. It felt like a ghost town.

In 2026, "professional" has become a code word for "boring and fake."

When you’re trying to sell something—whether it’s construction, roofing, or any real service—your customers aren't looking for a fashion show. They are looking for a guy who knows how to solve a problem. They want to know that if their order is late or if a sheet arrives scratched, there is a human being they can call who will actually pick up the phone.

The best digital marketing you can do this week isn't an ad. It’s showing the "behind the scenes."

  • Take a photo of the delivery truck that just arrived.

  • Show the guys working in the heat.

  • Post a picture of a coffee stain on a blueprint.

Why? Because it shows you’re busy. It shows you’re real.

People want to buy from businesses that other people are already buying from. If your Facebook page only has "perfect" graphics, it looks like you have nothing to do all day. If your page has raw photos of actual work happening, it shows you’re in demand.

Stop trying to find the "perfect" keyword to rank on Google. Just talk about the stuff you know. If you spend ten minutes writing about why a specific type of screw is better for a coastal house than a cheap one, you are doing better marketing than any "agency" could ever do for you. You’re sharing knowledge, not a sales pitch.

At the end of the day, digital marketing is just an extension of your reputation. If you’re honest in person, be honest online. If you’re a bit rough around the edges but you do great work, show that. Don’t let some "expert" tell you to hide your personality behind a logo.

In a world full of artificial junk, the most "normal" guy in the room is the one who gets the most calls.
