Most of the digital marketing advice you see online is written by people who have never actually had to pay a light bill or manage a warehouse. They tell you to "engage with your audience" and "build a brand identity." What does that even mean when you’re just trying to sell some roofing sheets or get a contract signed?
In 2026, the internet is basically a giant pile of fake stuff. Fake reviews, fake AI photos, and fake sounding websites. Because of that, people have developed a "BS detector" that is sharper than ever. The second they see a post that looks like an ad, they keep scrolling.
If you want to actually make money from the internet this year, you have to do the opposite of what the "agencies" tell you.
Instead of hiring a photographer to take perfect pictures of your product, take your phone out, drop a heavy piece of equipment on your product, and show people that it didn't break. That’s not "marketing"—that’s proof. People don't want to be "marketed" to; they want to be shown the truth.
Also, stop worrying about your "reach." Having 10,000 followers doesn't matter if none of them live in your city or need your services. I’d rather have a Facebook page with 20 followers if those 20 people are local builders who actually buy stuff.
Digital marketing is just a tool to help you talk to more people at once. If you wouldn't say it to a customer's face while shaking their hand, don't put it on your website. Keep your language simple. Use "I" and "We." Show your face. Show your mistakes and how you fixed them.
The most successful people online right now aren't the ones with the biggest budgets; they’re the ones who are the most "normal." In a world full of robots and polished corporate lies, just being a regular person who does honest work is the best strategy you’ve got.
